The Innovations In Trauma Therapy Conference 2014 will feature expert presenters teaching unique and innovative treatments. We have gathered an outstanding faculty to present the theory and application of innovative treatment models. Interactive dialogue and clinical demonstrations make this event both a valuable and a unique learning experience for professionals around the world. We are excited to share this knowledge and increase our collective ability to provide excellent care.

Psychotherapies for Chronic PTSD

Psychotherapy is key to effective treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but good resources are hard to find. At Columbia University/ New York State Psychiatric Institute, we offer individuals with PTSD 14 weeks of no-cost treatment with one of three psychotherapies in a research study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. Experienced therapists supervised by experts in the field provide Prolonged Exposure (PE), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Relaxation therapy. Carefully trained independent evaluators provide regular evaluations. People who improve in treatment are assessed 3 months later to make sure they stay better. Non-responders to treatment are offered up to 3 months of no-cost alternative treatment. No medication is involved in the treatment study.

There is no cost for participating in the study. Individuals who complete their final ratings receive a $75 honorarium. All ratings and treatment are kept confidential. To learn more, please see our website (http://www.columbiatrauma.org) or contact Ms. Helena Rosenfeld (212 543-6747) at New York State Psychiatric Institute.

MALESURVIVOR WEEKENDS OF RECOVERY

MaleSurvivor Weekends of Recovery are open to any man, 18 or older, who has been sexually victimized or assaulted as a child and/or as an adult. MaleSurvivor, an international non-profit organization, is the sponsor of the weekends. We sponsor 4 introductory weekends, which we call Level One, at 4 different locations around the U.S. and Canada, and one Advanced Weekend open to any alumnus of a Level One Weekend. We choose conference centers known for sponsoring healing weekends and able to provide safety and nurturance for our participants and staff. Currently, the 3 locations in the U.S. are: the Sequoia Retreat Center, near Santa Cruz, CA in late March; the Center for New Beginnings, in Dahlonega, GA in May; and Hope Springs Conference Center, in Peebles, OH, in October. Our Canadian weekend is held at the Kempenfelt Conference Centre just a ‘little above’ Toronto on beautiful Kempenfelt Bay, Lake Simcoe, in July.

Registration Costs

Registration includes the costs of the facilitated Weekend of Recovery program, with our team of skilled facilitators from the MaleSurvivor Weekend of Recovery Facilitator Team, plus lodging, 7 meals, and snacks. Bottled water, juices, tea and coffee will be available throughout the weekend. Although accommodations vary by facility, participants generally have a choice of single, double or triple rooms.
