“I exhibit PTSD symptoms for two reasons. I experienced a rape at the hands of a boyfriend of 3 years, and, for many years as a child, I was left alone with my mother who was psychotically schizophrenic. I have worked hard to overcome these traumas.
Over the past 10 years I have taken many art courses, focusing on figurative drawing. Also my background in psychology helped me learn to express my story.. Also, I am always grateful for the Art Therapy group I was permitted to participate in through St. Luke’s rape counseling center in NYC. That was an incredible experience. Each of my works shows a range of emotion-no one work tackles a single issue. Through training as an artist, I have learned to express the feelings of rage, confusion, anxiety, powerlessness and loneliness that the traumatic experiences brought.”
